Roaming Costs vs simZILLA

The comparison by destination

Carrier figures and simZILLA from-prices are quoted from our country guides (checked 1 October 2026), where each one is explained in full. Carrier plans, zones and prices change — check your own provider's app before you fly.

How to read this: carrier day passes renew every day you roam, and the day's data expires at the end of each day whether you used it or not. The simZILLA column is a prepaid from-price — you pay it once for the plan, not per day. The from-price is our plan-entry price for that destination; larger 10GB–50GB plans cost more, but the price never changes day to day.

What this table does and doesn't say

• The Australian carrier figures above are Telstra and Optus only, because those are the figures stated and verified in our guides. Vodafone customers get its own $5-a-day roaming offer — it isn't quoted in our guides, so we don't quote it here. Check the Vodafone app.
• Telstra's International Day Pass is destination-dependent: $10 a day (2GB) in Zone 2, which covers most destinations, and $5 a day (2GB) in Zone 1 — of the destinations we cover, that's New Zealand and Fiji.
• Optus Daily Roaming at $5 for 5GB per 24 hours only applies to eligible Optus plans. On other Optus plans the options are the $10 Roaming Pass (1GB a day) or the standard rate of $1 per megabyte — roughly $1,000 per gigabyte. Which one applies to you depends on your plan, not the destination.
• The Optus $10 Roaming Pass and the $1/MB standard rate aren't quoted in our New Zealand guide, so those rows don't list them. They aren't free — check your own plan.
• We are not the cheapest eSIM provider on every route, and this table does not claim it. What we are is prepaid, priced in AUD, no account, and no daily meter. For a short trip where you barely use data, your carrier's day pass can be the reasonable call — our own New Zealand guide says exactly that.
• Carrier zones and prices change. Every figure on this page is quoted from a simZILLA country guide that was re-verified against the live Telstra and Optus pages on 1 October 2026. Before you travel, confirm the current figure on your provider's own site.
