Every plan here is digital. That has a real environmental consequence, and it is smaller than the one you were probably expecting.
Buying a plan here produces no plastic SIM card, no cardboard, no courier, and no retail shelf. Nothing gets manufactured or flown for your purchase, because there is nothing physical to manufacture or fly. The plan arrives as a QR code and an eSIM profile.
A travel eSIM replaces the physical SIM people used to buy at an airport kiosk after landing. That card had to be made, packaged, shipped, stocked, and eventually thrown away. This one doesn't exist.
This is not our own claim. An independent, ISO-compliant life cycle assessment by Fraunhofer IZM compared a physical SIM against an eSIM and found the eSIM generates 46% less CO2 over a three year device life: 123g CO2 equivalent against 229g.
The reason is where the emissions sit. For a physical SIM, 59% of its footprint is production and 41% is transport, use, and disposal. For an eSIM, 2% is production and transport is effectively zero, because there is no card to make and no card to move.
The Global System for Mobile Communications Association estimates the SIM market at 4.35 billion units a year, responsible for more than 560,000 tonnes of CO2 and more than 18,000 tonnes of plastic. Every plan bought here is a card that was never made.
We would rather tell you the limits than let you guess at them.
We are not carbon neutral, and we do not buy carbon offsets. We have not paid a certification body for a badge, and we are not going to imply we have.
Our servers still draw power. Our hosting is matched with renewable electricity, which is our hosting provider's claim about their own data centres, achieved through renewable supply contracts and certificates rather than every electron being green. It is worth stating precisely, so that is how we state it.
The network you connect to when you land is the carrier's, not ours. We do not control its power draw. The eSIM chip itself is still built into the phone you already own before you ever find us. Our footprint is small because our product is software, not because we have eliminated emissions.
Most companies collect your data and then promise to protect it. We don't collect it, so there is nothing to leak.
Most eSIM sellers post a plastic card and then talk about their sustainability efforts. We don't post a card, so there is less to account for.
Both come from the same instinct: don't create the thing that then needs managing. Nothing to leak. Nothing to waste.
